The poem, ‘Asleep in the Valley’, written by the French poet Jean Nicolas Arthur Rimbaud, reveals the horror of modern warfare. The poem opens with a beautiful view of a valley where a soldier is found sleeping.

ANS. The sunrays are compared to softly flowing stream. [সূর্যরশ্মিকে একটি ধীরে প্রবহমান নদীর সঙ্গে তুলনা করা হয়েছে।]

7. How is the soldier lying in the valley? [সৈনিকটি কীভাবে উপত্যকায় শুয়ে রয়েছে?]
ANS. The soldier is lying open-mouthed in the valley with a pillow of ferns under his head. [সৈনিকটি ফার্নের বালিশের ওপর মাথা দিয়ে ঈষৎ হাঁ করে শুয়ে রয়েছে।]

ANS. The smile of the soldier is that of an infant, gentle and innocent. [সৈনিকটির হাসিটি শিশুর হাসির মতে, সুন্দর ও নিস্পাপ।]

ANS. The poet fears so because the soldier is sleeping under the open sky. [কবি এমন ভয় পাচ্ছেন কারণ সৈনিকটি খোলা আকাশের নীচে শুয়ে আছে।]

ANS. The soldier is not disturbed either by the humming of insects or by cold weather as he rests his hand on his breast and thus sleeps peacefully.[সৈনিকটি পতঙ্গদের গুঞ্জনধ্বনি বা ঠান্ডা আবহাওয়া এর কোনোটির দ্বারাই বিরক্ত হয়নি, কারণ সে তার নিজের বুকের ওপর হাতটি রেখেছে এবং এইভাবে শান্তিতে ঘুমোচ্ছ।]

ANS. The innocence of the soldier is described through his smile which is gentle and without any trickery.[সৈনিকের সরলতা তার স্মিত হাসির মধ্য দিয়ে বর্ণিত হয়েছে যা নম্র এবং কোনােরকম ভনিতাহীন।]

24.  What does the epithet, ‘very young’, suggest in the poem? [‘very young’ এই বিশেষণটি কবিতাটিতে কী বোঝায়?]
ANS. The epithet (aforcet), ‘very young’, suggests that young men go to the battlefield (ব্যাটলফিল্ড), and are sacrificed (Fute ) in the warfare.[‘very young’ এই বিশেষণ থেকে বোঝা যায় যে কমবয়সি ব্যক্তিরা যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে যায় আর যুদ্ধেই বলিপ্রদত্ত হয়।
